Abstract

The growth of plastic consumption in Indonesia can reduce the increase in microplastic pollution in various environments, including in leachate in the Final Processing Site (TPA). Bantargebang TPST is a large-scale waste management site that has high potential for microplastic contamination. Microplastics are plastic particles measuring <5mm that come from the degradation of macroplastics due to physical, chemical, and biological processes. Leachate produced from the waste piles at this location contains various organic, inorganic, heavy metal contaminants to microplastics that can pollute the environment if not properly processed. Leachate treatment at Bantargebang TPST uses a conventional process. The purpose of this study was to analyze the efficiency of microplastic removal and microplastic identification. Composite Sampling is the method used. The research results obtained showed that the most microplastic reporting in the initial processing unit was 1,170 particles/L and the total final processing reporting was 98%, therefore the reporting results decreased after going through the unit process at IPAS with microplastics dominating in the form of fragments, films, fibers, and foam, and dominating sizes <1 mm with black and yellow colors with a processing removal efficiency of 91.62%.
